Bang for The Buck: Chin Chin heads to International City

Chin Chin has gone on to become one of the premier Indo-Chinese restaurant chains in Dubai and I had a chance to sample the restaurant’s food at its latest new branch in the Pavillion, International City – the burgeoning community’s own mall.

Ambience: The restaurant followed a classy red-and-black theme with black lantern-style lights, chairs made out of wooden slats and an open kitchen on the right side giving the restaurant a much more upscale look than its prices might suggest.

What we had: There were a variety of starters that we got to sample in bite-sized portions included Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chilly Paneer, Salt & Pepper Prawns and Chicken La Zi Ji – my favorite pick from the bunch were the Salt & Pepper Prawns where I loved the zesty taste of the crunchy, freshly-fried prawns. The Chilly Paneer was a great option for vegetarians as well with just the right amount of spice. The soup we got to try – the Chicken Hot & Sour Soup – definitely lived up to its name but was too sour for my palette.

The main course gave us the chance to try their Vegetable Fried Rice and Vegetable Hakka Noodles which tasted fine and were nothing to really brag about. The main highlight of the main course was the Lamb Broccoli with Oyster Sauce where the rich sauce proved a great complement to the tender lamb and fresh broccoli.

And finally, the Fried Noodles with Vanilla Ice Cream we had for dessert tasted great too – the thick, scrumptious ice cream proved a great match for the warm, crispy fried noodles soaked in honey.

My drink – a Mixed Berries Smoothie- was not as impressive though and was a tad too tangy for my taste

Service: The servers were polite and helpful, albeit extremely busy considering the restaurant was at its full capacity.

Must-haves: Salt & Pepper Prawns and Lamb Broccoli with Oyster Sauce

Verdict: Chin Chin is a good value-for-money option if you’re craving conventional Chinese food and it’s International City branch is no different.

Details: A dinner for two costs an approximate of 95 AED – for more details, call 0521366265 or visit their Zomato page at zomato.com/dubai/chin-chin-international-city
