Food trucks have become a staple of the dining section of any large-scale event in Dubai – but how about making the food trucks the star of the event? That’s what the Abu Dhabi Street Feast did with old favorites such as The Shebi and newcomers such as Son of a Chick hitting up the Corniche of the capital.
I tried out the Tandem Burger from Tandem’s food truck, which is often a fixture on the Dubai food truck scene – the burger came with a tender beef patty, topped off with caramelized onions and a mix of barbecue and their special sauce. The burger buns tasted cold and a bit stale, taking away from what could’ve been a great burger.
And if the food coma wasn’t enough, there was a jumping castle for kids and a large screen playing lovable animated movies such as Despicable Me 2 (who wouldn’t want to watch that movie again by the beach?) with comfy bean bags provided. One thing I wasn’t a huge fan of, though, was the 30 AED price – when Dubai can hold bigger and better events for free, the price seemed a bit absurd and could explain the lower turnout as well.
Highs: Every imaginable food truck squeezed into one venue
Lows: The 30 AED entry ticket didn’t seem quite fair compared to Dubai’s free mega-events
Verdict: The Capital is moving up the culinary with its first-ever Street Feast – here’s hoping it only gets bigger and better next year!
